ركَّزت الدراسة على العلاقة بين تشجيع الرياضة والتأثير واسع الانتشار لوسائل التواصل الاجتماعي في الدول العربية التي تُعدُّ إحدى المناطق التي تؤدي فيها الرياضة دورًا محوريًّا في تشكيل الهوية الثقافيَّة وتعزيز التماسك الاجتماعي. علاوة على أن كرة القدم أصبحت أحد الجوانب المهمة في الهوية العربية في ظل شغف ملايين المشجعين بدعم فرق محلية ودولية. كما أدَّى الإعلام الرقمي إلى تمكين المشجعين من متابعة الفرق الرياضية والرياضيين المفضلين لديهم بسهولة غير مسبوقة، سواء أكان ذلك على مستوى الأفراد أم المجتمعات، ممَّا عزَّز الشعور بوجود روابط تتخطى الحدود.
وأكدت الدراسة أن التعصُّب الكروي في الدول العربية يرتبط غالبًا بسياقات اجتماعية وثقافية أوسع، ممَّا يجعل من الضروري تهيئة الاستجابات لتتلاءم مع البيئة المحلية، كما أشارت إلى أن التعليم يعد عاملًا أساسيًّا في التصدي للشغب والتعصُّب، ومن ثمَّ يمكن أن يؤدي إعداد برامج تعليمية شاملة تستهدف اليافعين، جنبًا إلى جنب مع إطلاق حملات توعية، إلى الحد من تأثير التعصُّب عبر الإنترنت وغرس قيم الاحترام والروح الرياضية.
واعتبرت الدراسة التعاون الإقليمي أمرًا ضروريًّا لمكافحة التعصب الرياضي، ومن ثمَّ هناك حاجة إلى بذل جهود منسقة من أجل تبادُل أفضل الممارسات، والمواءمة بين التعريفات القانونية، وتعزيز أساليب التعاون في مكافحة مظاهر العنف المتعلق بكرة القدم
